Web Design Search Engine
Optimization (SEO) is Real - Are You Using
It?
No matter what type of online
business, web design SEO still remains at the core
of your success. SEO is a common Internet
marketing term and
stands for "search engine optimization" and
basically means your website is properly optimized
so the search engines will know exactly how to list
your site. There's no exact science to web SEO;
it's a matter of testing and tweaking to find out
what search engines like best and what they don't
like.
How to
Optimize
While competition remains
stiff online with hundreds of business and personal
sites springing up every day, this doesn't mean you
can't use web design SEO practices to get listed at
the top. Search engine rankings have more to do
with relevance and trust than numbers. So if your
site is relevant to the search term and has built a
certain amount of trust (through incoming links and
safe web practices), then you're more likely to get
listed in or near the top of the search engine
results.
Being "relevant" can mean two
things. One, your site has all the right keywords
in all the right places so search engines will know
exactly what your site is about. Two, your site
provides valuable information and resources about
those keywords. Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc. examine
various elements of your site to determine if it's
relevant to the search. They look at the keywords
and phrases being used, how often they're used
(without keyword stuffing), and how much
informative content is written using those
phrases.
Trade-Off for Effective
Web Design SEO
Sometimes you have to make
trade-offs to build a web business. Companies that
only want to brand their name and have millions of
dollars to do it can get by with a fancy site
design that has little or no relevant keywords and
content. But if you own a small business or are
just starting out, you'll want to focus on web
design SEO more than making your site look
glamorous! Your goal is to have affordable search
engine ranking either done by you or your staff, or
maybe by an SEO expert you've searched for online.
You might have more writing and videos than logos,
but that's okay! Your main goal with search engine
targeting is to get results so you can make sales,
right?
Getting Backlinks to Your
Web Site
Don't forget about links!
Linking throughout your site's navigation using
relevant keywords also gives your site an SEO
boost. And remember, internal links placed within
your articles get extra credit when the robots
cruise your pages putting just a little more edge
on your web design SEO. Search engine robots browse
your site, following all the links throughout. When
you link to pages within your site using the
keywords as your link text, this adds to your page
relevance.
Links coming to your site
from outside sources should also be linked using
keyword text links whenever possible. This builds a
network of relevant keywords pointing to your site
from multiple places on the Internet, thus, letting
search engine robots know that your site is indeed
relevant to that particular phrase. This is a giant
part of web design SEO so don't ignore it in your
Internet marketing strategy. I personally use Mike
Liebner's Blogging Underground to get my links. His
site has 100s of great blogs on different subjects
and has helped me to get numerous pages indexed
quickly an many on the front page of
Google.
In a nutshell, it's important
to learn all you can about keyword and key phrase
placement throughout each of your web pages. Every
page on your site should be optimized with web
design SEO so that the page you are designing
becomes a search engine magnet to drive traffic
(but, don't just write for the search engines, make
sure you have quality content for your site
visitors). Your homepage is the main doorway, but
other pages can get listed too! Then you can build
targeted traffic through various doorways and
increase the potential for sales.
