How to Increase
My Web Site Traffic by Linking - Visitor Generation
and Analysis
Like many other
web
design beginners or
website owners, you might be asking "how to
increase my website traffic." One surefire way to
boost search engine rankings and get more traffic
is to get quality sites linking back to yours.
Google, Yahoo!, Bing and other search engines put a
lot of emphasis on backlinks. And it's not only the
quantity of links, but the quality of links that
really makes a difference.
What Constitutes a Quality
Backlink?
Any link coming to your site
from an authority site (.edu, .gov, etc.) is
considered a quality backlink. Links from sites
that are very popular in the mainstream market
and/or have a high page rank (4 or more) are
considered to be quality links. Links from good
quality sites that are definitely related to your
products/services are also thought to be good
quality links. Here are some good examples of how
the value of links might be determined.
*Bad Link: Website about
motorcycles with a Page Rank of "0" linking to your
site that offers tips and training materials about
web design.
*Good Link: Website selling
web hosting with a Page Rank of "4" linking to your
web design site.
*Bad Link: Website about
gardening with a Page Rank of "2" linking to your
site, which sells children's books and
toys.
*Good Link: Website about
parenting with a Page Rank "5" linking to your site
that sells children's books and toys.
*Bad Link: Website that sells
gift baskets with a Page Rank "3" linking to your
site that sells handyman tools and
supplies.
*Good Link: Plumbing
authority site with a Page Rank "6" linking to your
website that sells handyman tools and
supplies.
So to answer the question,
"How to increase my website traffic" your efforts
need to go a couple of steps further than just
getting links from all sorts of websites. It's
important to find websites with a good page rank
that complement your site.
The "How" in Getting
Links
Personal note: When learning
how to increase my website traffic, I discovered
quickly that you can't force sites to link back to
yours! But fortunately, there are a number of
things you can do to get links.
First, attract links
by offering plenty of valuable information and
resources to your visitors. Post articles, PDF
brochures or manuals, video presentations, resource
sections, etc. to make it appealing to link to your
site. This will naturally attract links from
related sites without your having to ask for
them.
Second, look for a
marketing company that offers link building
strategies. Firms that have been around for 5 or 10
years should know a lot about link building. My
webmastercourse.com site did not start with high
page rank. I had to gradually increase my website
traffic by adding quality content, building links,
using outgoing links to authority sites and, most
of all, time. You can actually pay to have your
articles, site links, etc. submitted to hundreds of
good quality sites for link building.
Third, contact the
owners of some very good quality sites that are
related to yours. You might not get a response from
all, but just a few good quality link exchanges can
give your site a boost! No matter what method used,
I discovered years ago that getting links from
quality sites is one of the top ways to increase my
website traffic!
Fourth, Links from
Relevant Blogs - Use a method I've been using
for a number of years. My friend Mike Leibner over
at Blogging Underground has blogs set up in many
different areas (I've even contributed my
www.webmastercourse.com/blog to his site) which
allows you to post your own articles and link back
to your site using keyword phrases of your
choosing. This is a powerful tool I have used for
years to increase my website traffic and I wouldn't
be on top of the search engines with so many of my
pages without it.
Hope these tips help you in
securing more visitors. Now that you know about how
