How to Check
Website Traffic and Increase Sales
One way to increase sales for
your website is to check website traffic often.
What do we mean by "checking traffic?" It's
something all online marketers are familiar with to
make sure their site is getting an adequate number
of quality visitors. But even if you're not a
marketing expert, you can still use this crucial
method to find out where your site stands among
competitors and discover how to improve.
Number of Site
Visitors
You'll want to check website
traffic to find out how many "unique visitors" come
to your site and how those visitors arrive. If your
hosting company doesn't offer a control panel with
detailed stats for your site, then there are plenty
of third party services to give you this
information. Stats show how many visitors came to
your site per day, week, month, year, etc. They
indicate which sites have referred visitors to your
site. Some even tell which keywords or phrases were
typed in to find your site!
Even when using a third party
service to check website traffic, be sure you have
all the tools and information you need to analyze
your site's traffic. It's the only way to know if
and how your site is performing with various ad
campaigns. It's also the only way to really tell if
your site is getting "organic" search engine
traffic. Getting organic (natural) traffic means
your site can be found in major search engines
based on keyword searches, not only paid
ads.
Testing Your
Campaigns
You should check website
traffic before and after any ad campaign. Are you
planning a huge pay-per-click campaign or are you
launching a local ad campaign with your website
address? Do you pay for banner ads, text ads, etc.?
Even when sending your own newsletter, you should
check to see if there's a boost of new traffic
after sending it to your subscribers!
Test how many visitors come
to your site before and after launching the
campaign. Notice if your conversion rate stays the
same or increases/decreases with the campaign.
Also, conduct smaller split tests when possible so
you can test your headlines and sales copy, and
maximize your profits when rolling out a larger
campaign.
Valuable
Information
Get to know how many people
are actually coming to your site and making a
purchase. If you get 300 visitors per day, then how
many of those 300 visitors are actually buying a
product? Are the visitors at least signing up for
your free ezine or updates list? What is your
site's conversion rate (from visitors to buyers)?
If you don't know this information about your web
site, then how can you know if your site's goals
can be met now or in the future? And the good news
is you can check website traffic every day, week or
month to find out how well your site is
doing.
Don't ignore this powerful
method of monitoring your site's progress. It's so
easy to check website traffic that you'll wonder
why you waited so long!
