Create Your Own Site or Hire a Designer?
So you’re ready to create your own website, but you’ve heard that web design costs can be anywhere from $500 to $20,000! Now, if twenty grand is not much money to you, then reading this lesson is not necessary.

WOW – that’s a huge price range for a website, right?  Well, keep in mind that most website designing companies and freelancers charge according to how much time and energy is put into a site.  Some charge less up front but then add additional charges on future updates because they realize the benefits of residual income.  Other’s charge a huge amount up front and very little for future updates.

A Professional Website Designer – Higher Price Range
web design costs can also vary according to how popular or skilled the design company is in the market place.  A web designer that is highly skilled and in demand (and knows it) will likely charge much more than someone who’s just starting their web design business. But, if you have the money, they could be well worth their price.

Your Web Design Needs
Another thing to consider is how many features and/or pages you’ll need for your personal or business website.  Do you plan to create a log-in system for visitors, a full-feature shopping cart, an article or tips section, etc.?  The larger the site and the more features needed, then the more it will cost no matter which designer you hire.

Options to Reduce Web Design Costs
Before signing on with the first designer you find, take your time and interview several Internet designers by email or phone.  Make a list of questions to ask and keep note of the answers from each.  Ask for references as well or view the designer’s portfolio and contact a few of the site owners that are featured there.  Ask how their overall experience was with this particular designer.   Doing so might save you plenty of time and money at the start!

Using website design Templates
Some site designers charge less if you agree to use one of their pre-designed templates as a starting point for your site. This saves them design time, saves you in web design costs, and they are able to start adding content and site features to your domain name right away.

DIY Website Design
Another way to reduce web design costs is to design your own website.  If you just need a simple site with basic features and content, then consider taking a web design course to learn how to design.  Once you learn the basics, you can purchase a design template to start with or design the site from scratch.

While it can be time consuming at the start to create a website, you can possibly save hundreds or thousands of dollars, and you’ll be able to update your site any time you want without having to pay again or wait on a designer to make the changes for you.

*Warning:  Don’t be fooled by very cheap designers that seem to promise the moon.  These might charge only $200 for a 20-page website with customer log-in features, but will likely do a very sloppy job on coding.  Then – your web design costs will soar as you may find yourself hiring a professional web site designer to fix the pages for you – and charge  a nice fee to do so!

Consider these tips when comparing web design costs.  Weigh the pros and cons carefully for all your designing options so you’ll have the best site possible without spending a fortune! Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I’ll see you in the next lesson so, til then – Bob
