How Much Time for Cloud Customer Relations Management Software?

Older but Still Time Consuming to Set Up?
Yes, this thing called Google Docs has been around online for at least six years now. Cloud software or web-based CRM software like this has been around forever now.

Gradually these days, the concept is really beginning to take root. Major enterprise-level software users are beginning to choose working over the cloud as opposed to working with on premise software.

Most of the time, when the company first wishes to try the web-based software idea out, they try out customer relations management first. Web-based CRM software is where they first give the product a good run.

“How Long” is Important to Companies
Apparently, they figure that if things go badly, it will only be the customer that’s affected. One of the first things the managers of a business want to know when they consider this system is – how long does it take.

They would like to know how long it might take from the time they place their order to the time it’s all set up and running smoothly.

Simple?
The thing is, with web based systems, it’s all set up on the host computer at the vendor’s office. There’s no software to install or configure. They just need to show you how to turn on your browser and log on to your account with their company. In theory, it’s as simple as that.

Yes, But…
To be realistic, it can take as long as a couple of months to first set the whole thing up. The thing is, setting your CRM software is only a small part of your CRM responsibilities.

But apart from that, the software has to be made ready to work with your systems. It needs all the data, it needs to be customized to your company’s specific processes, it takes time to train your staff, and so on.

The first time usually takes exactly as much time as it would if you used actual software on-site.

CRM a Chore?
Most of the work needed to set up a web-based CRM software system has nothing to do with technology. It’s just plain old hard work. There a lot of business processes you need to be able to program into the system.

All the different customer relations departments you have, all the accountability, all the business process designing – although this takes a great deal of time, it has nothing to do with the software. It’s just designing and planning of the kind that goes into any type of new activity.

It Gets Easier!
Once you’ve done all this, the actual roll out can begin. This is the part that’s actually easy. When all the computers and software are handled by a third party provider, you don’t have to worry about buying, installing and maintaining any servers, you don’t have to worry about babysitting any buggy software, and you don’t have to maintain an extra large IT department for this.

The Cons of Web Based Customer Management
The only problem with the Software as a Service model is that it doesn’t give you the kind of flexibility that on-site software gives you. So, you’ll need to do a bit more research and make a decision for your small business or service – it is right for you?
