How to Tips for Web Page
Designers - Start Your New Design
Business
Getting Started in Website
Design
If you're like most web
page designers, you probably feel overwhelmed
with all the tasks needed for starting your
business. The ins and outs of keeping up to date
with the latest
web design techniques
can be difficult enough. But when factoring in the
business aspect of it, your days can become hectic
in a hurry. That's why it's good to get some
pointers when just starting out. Here are some
great ideas to help your new business endeavor go
smoothly.
Create a Business
Plan
For starters, create a web
design business plan that includes your financial
plan, goals and how you will reach those goals.
Give some thought to how you will secure sales,
what you will charge and the type of web design
contracts you'll need. Consider all legal aspects
of web design, and how you will guarantee your
work. You'll feel more confident about what you
offer if you take time to plan these aspects of
your business.
Make Marketing a
Priority
For many web page designers,
their marketing is limited to word of mouth. They
spend a lot of time working on sites at lower
prices, and very little time marketing to build
value for their services. Turn it around and start
promoting yourself as an experienced designer. Use
promotional techniques that create value in your
potential client's mind. Pay close attention to
your own website, where you will display your
portfolio, sales copy, pricing, etc. The more value
you build, the more you can charge.
One place I've found help in
marketing is over a Mike Leibner's site called
Blogging Underground. It's a great place to get
ideas and works for blogs or websites - He shows
simple ways to make a site grow and get favorable
results in the eyes of Google and the other search
engines.
Specialize
One way to simplify your web
design business is to specialize. Become a
designing expert for a certain market, such as real
estate, medical, law, etc. Once you learn about the
field and create several sites, you'll be able to
market to clients in your field of expertise. It's
much easier to market to one group of people than
to anyone and everyone.
Keep Clients
Happy
Once established, you'll want
to do all you can to keep clients happy (within
reason). Offer updates at reasonable prices to
build monthly residual income. Provide additional
services your clients might need, such as hosting,
domain name, marketing services, search engine
submissions, etc. If you can't provide these
services yourself, partner with someone who can.
You can also find affiliate programs to pay you a
commission each time a client signs up with that
company.
Also, stick with your
guarantee with no hassles. Let clients know that
you want them to be 100 percent satisfied. This
will result in referrals for new business
later.
Use these ideas to get on
board with other web page designers in building a
successful design business. You can't afford to
ignore any of these steps - your bottom line will
depend on it! Not sure about how to learn the
skills you need? I recommend Shelley
