Web Site Design
Help
If you're starting a new
website of your own for the first time, you might
be overwhelmed as you read through all the web
design help that's available for beginners. But
don't worry, getting your website up and running is
really just a step-by-step process. There are many
web design courses and tutorials to help you not
only learn web design, but to design an effective
site to meet your goals.
This web design help page can
give you some direction and focus so you can get
your site designed and in operation as soon as
possible.
1. Decide on a Theme and
Get a Domain Name
If you don't have one
already, decide on the type of site you'd like to
design. Will it be a large corporate style website
or one that's simple and sells just a few products?
Will it be a commission type site, earning
commissions from the sales of other people's
products? Will the site be for a nonprofit group,
church or some other organization? What is its
theme and which keywords or phrases best describe
this theme?
Once you know the purpose of
your site, you can move forward to find a domain
name. Sites like GoDaddy.com offer affordable
registration and you can search for available
domain names before having to pay a
dime!
2. Set Up Web
Hosting
Once you've registered the
domain name, set up hosting for your site that
meets your needs. Hosting provides space for your
site on a server (your spot on the huge WWW) and
gives you features, stats and more for web design
help and operation. The domain registration company
may or may not be your web host. You get to decide!
Make sure the web host offers the services and type
of programming capabilities you need for your site
(such as PHP, CSS, databases, etc.).
3. Start Learning about
Design
There are thousands of
schools and online
web design help courses
you can take to learn design, but look for those
that meet your skill level and that teach the type
of design you'd like to learn. It's great if you
can learn several types of design, but you really
only need to know one.... the design language you
plan on using for your new site. Also notice if
there's a particular design program being used with
the course, such as Dreamweaver or
Photoshop.
4. Learn about Marketing
Design
It's not enough to just learn
basic web design. You'll also need to learn the
basic principles of online marketing and how to
incorporate those into your design. Your website
will need to be designed to sell your products and
services, or to express your ideas, events,
purpose, etc. The layout, how the site flows,
colors, buttons, graphics and content all play a
crucial role in how your site's visitors
respond.
5. Start
Promoting
Once your site is up and
running, it's time to start a promotion schedule.
Create a marketing plan based on the following
types of promotions:
-- Researching
keywords and adding content articles to your
site
-- Submitting content to
related sites for backlinks
-- Submitting your site to
directories
-- Pay-per-click
campaigns
-- Online press
releases
-- Social marketing
etc.)
-- Link building with
authority sites
While this is a very general
outline of web
design help tips,
following these steps will get you on track to
designing a great website!
