Must-Haves for Every Aspiring Webmaster
When learning

much more to it than knowing the ins and outs of
web page coding. Savvy web designers today know how
to design with style, create useful content that's
search engine friendly and in many cases, help
clients with marketing and promotion. So as you can
see, learning to create a web page is only the
beginning of this journey. Let's look at three
must-haves of an aspiring webmaster for today's
fast-moving Internet world.
1. Multiple Technical
Skills
If you want to be proficient
as a web designer, it's wise to get as many
technical skills under your belt as possible.
You'll find that different clients want to see
different features and layouts on their site. Some
care more about functionality while others like
presentations such as videos and audio
demonstrations. Some clients will want a blend of
all the latest technologies!
So you'll start by learning
web design using the basics with HTML, but from
that point you can expand to CSS, XHTML, Adobe,
Illustrator, Flash, Quark Express, Ajax, etc. This
will give you the diversity you need to reach a
broad array of clients with different needs. And
thankfully, there are many web design courses for
learning web page design, so you can easily find
the course that works for you.
2. Multiple Media for the
Web
Become an expert in multiple
media that's being used to access the web these
days. There seems to be no end to technology. Web
users are accessing the Internet from their phones
on a daily basis. There are also laptops of various
sizes, PDAs, tablets, iPads, etc. So as you're
learning web design, don't forget this important
aspect of design so your clients can reach their
audience in multiple ways.
3. Marketing and Web Page
Design
While learning web design
techniques, don't forget about page structure in
terms of SEO. You'll want to be able to help your
clients build key "marketing content" into each web
page. There should be keywords and key phrases
included in every page so search engines will know
what the site is all about.
Ask your clients about
including additional content (articles, videos,
etc.) for SEO purposes. Even if you're not a
content writer, you can hire a couple of writers to
be on standby when SEO content writing is needed.
This can be a valuable addition to your web design
services.
Consider these three areas of
design while selecting web courses. As a beginner,
you'll need to start with a basic HTML course, but
then move forward quickly while it's fresh in your
mind so you can add to your skills. After learning
web design in these different areas, you'll be able
to help clients reach their goals.
