Learn How and Why You
Should Use Meta Tags in Web Design
This video illustrates how to
use meta tags within a website. The meta tags are
included in the "Header" section of your HTML web
page.
You don't necessarily need
all the tags, but the title and description can
help enhance your search engine optimization (SEO)
and can increase listings and rank.

inclusion
Meta Title
It's wise to use a title tag
because otherwise the search engines will just
guess at a title for your site or grab content from
your page's content section. This will be the title
or listing headline in the search engines once your
site has been listed, so include an important
keyword or phrase and make it a headline that
compels users to click and visit your
site!
Description
Tag
This is a summary of your
website or a short blurb. Though it's not
emphasized for SEO, Google will pick up on the
description from your meta tags and include that in
your listing. So you can actually use this area to
manipulate what visitors will see initially....
such as including a short sales pitch with a
special offer!
Keywords
Tag
In the keywords tag, you can
include words or phrases that are most relevant to
your site. Though Google, Bing and Yahoo! don't
actually pay attention to these words, some older
search engines might use these to determine what
your site is about.
Robots
A file called Robots.txt
gives the search engine robots / spiders permission
to look at your website's code and content for
possible indexing. When spiders arrive at your
site, this text file provides instructions on how
to crawl your site. A quick word - be careful how
you set up this file. It's best used by experienced
web designers so, if you feel lost, get some
help.
Meta tags were once always
used for SEO purposes, but nowadays,
Google*,
Yahoo! and Bing use the actual content within the
"body" section of your HTML code to determine what
your site's theme is and to determine where you
should be listed. So do use the title and
description meta tags to control "how" your site
looks once listed.

Google does seem to put some weight on the title
and description meta tags so I would suggest to
include them still to enhance your Internet
marketing
efforts.
