Choosing a Web Design Course The first step is to find a course that teaches according to your skills level so you can learn the basics of HTML and/or other programming skills. Before getting totally frustrated with beginner web design, here are a few questions to consider - then you can learn at your own speed. |

Do you want to build your own website for a business or for personal reasons? Do you need to sell products through a shopping cart setup or simply explain the services you offer and provide basic contact information? If you need to sell products, then you'll want a web training course that shows you how to design with a shopping cart function in place.
It's also important to focus on the programming language(s) being taught. You'll learn basic HTML for starters, but then you might desire to move forward with CSS, PHP or other skills. These languages will give you more flexibility with your site's design as well as offer many timesaving features for future site updates. In some cases, you might have to take multiple web design courses to learn various skills.
I have written about one designing course which has many of the elements listed in this tutorial so you might want to give it a try. I won't cover the details here but you can go at any time and read the Web Design Mastery review to see if it fits your situation as a beginner.
Website Builder Options
When selecting a web design course, make sure it uses a website builder that you feel is right for your needs and budget. There are a number of programs available, and some are free or very affordable. Dreamweaver is one of the most popular, but it's certainly not the only web design software available. Most courses reveal which software will be used to teach the lessons before buying to make your choice easier.
Tips for Building Your Site
While a course that teaches you how to build your own website might give in-depth information about design code, layout, images, links, etc., many courses lack the "nuts and bolts" of teaching effective design for SEO purposes. SEO (search engine optimization) is the method of designing your site and adding relevant keywords and phrases based on marketing research. This improves your chances of the search engines indexing your site and giving it a good ranking among your competitors.
When building your website, be sure to research how to create a search engine friendly site first so you can start enjoying the benefits of search engine traffic immediately.
Building with HTML Code
HTML code looks confusing to the beginner, but taking a web design course about HTML can really help. A web page's code is actually a conglomerate of code sections, with each section being designed to perform a certain function or to give the page a certain feature.
When learning to build your own website, you'll actually learn to build one line of code or one HTML tag at a time. This includes learning how to format text, create hyperlink (linking) codes, build HTML tables, create forms, insert images, etc. You'll learn codes individually and then learn to put them all together to form the actual web page.
Once you learn how to build your own website, you can move forward with designing and promoting your site. Don't feel that you have to do everything or learn everything at once. Designing and promoting a site is an ongoing project for as long as you own the site!
