Getting to know the
Internet
Introduction to the Internet
The dot com commercials are
everywhere. Large, medium-sized, and even small
companies are getting online. It's the thing to do
in the 21st century. If you don't already have a
website
deisgn of your own,
chances are you will soon.
People from all over the
world are taking advantage of this phenomenon
called the Internet. Why? Because before it's
creation, there was no other way to bring
businesses, nations, and people in general together
through one source.
Instant
Everything
Ten years ago, who would of
thought that you could type a message and an
"address" into something on your computer called an
email composition box and click send, and your
message immediately zaps to your desired recipient?
I sure didn't imagine
anything like that at all. We would joke about the
Jetsons' lifestyle becoming a reality one day, but
never thought we would be so far along in
technology by the year 2000 that at the click of a
mouse we could find instant everything,
literally.
How the Internet
Changed Everything
When I talked with local
business owners a few years ago about starting an
Internet site for our hometown, I did not receive
much support. The business owners who did sign up
for the site were mostly those who advertise all
the time anyway. They thought it would be a great
way to get their name "out there." The term "out
there" is an understatement now.
Until recently, neither they
nor I realized the potential of the
Internet.
Why? Because we were very
limited in our thinking, as many people are. We
couldn't see beyond what the Internet was doing in
our small town at that particular time - which was
very little.
Potential of the
Internet
The potential of the Internet
is astronomical. Whether a person would like to
share personal ideas with others or start a home
business, the Internet opens the door to both. The
Internet provides information, resources, humor,
contact with others in the world, news, and an
extraordinary avenue for business
transactions.
There are so many Websites on
the Internet now that when you search for certain
terms through search engines, some terms bring
millions of results. But don't get discouraged
because this simply means that there are millions
of people out there for you to target with your
personal or business site.
Your Internet
Needs
You have three basic needs
for your very own Website that the Internet
provides at no charge.
1. Tons of
resources and information to build relevent
content for your Website.
2. Sources for free
tips on how to improve and promote your
Website.
3. Access to millions
of people and a variety of avenues to reach
those people.
