Which Web Host is Right for Your Programming Needs?

Which Internet Hosting Company?

There are so many web hosting companies on the Internet today that it can be difficult to choose the right one and you want to make sure your company supports your programming needs.

Check the Programming Capabilities before Choosing a Web Host

There are so many web host providers today that it can be difficult to make a choice. The important thing is to choose the host that works best for you and one that fits your web business needs.

Internet Hosting Services - Know Them!

Web hosts offer many services; some you will need, some you will not need. These can include email services, programming application support, operating system support, server space and bandwidth, shopping cart capabilities, merchant account integration, and many others.

Programming capability is very important because this affects “how” you can design your website. It's wise to speak with your web designer about the programming language to be used in design before signing on with a web host. If you've already secured a web hosting service and find that it is non-supportive of the programming language you intend to use, then you may be required to cancel your hosting plan and find a new web hosting provider.

Programming Capabilities Explained

Programming languages are used to determine the basic functionality of your website. Your website can be designed in simple HTML, which was originally the language for most simple, plain websites with limited functionality. Using HTML language only requires little effort to design, but can hinder the ability to grow in the future because it limits the functions of your website tremendously.

Naturally, all web hosts are going to support HTML because it is the foundational programming language of all other languages. Web hosts, however, might not support other programming applications or might only support certain ones. It's your duty to find out which programming languages are supported before you start designing your site or before buying their hosting plan.

What are "Other" Programming Languages?

By other programming languages, we mean PHP, ASP, XHTML, PERL, etc. With PHP, for example, your website will be able to function as a secure log-in type website with user features that enable your visitors to store their personal information in an account with a username and password. PHP also enables you to update certain parts of your website from one main menu so you can easily make changes to menus or pricing throughout the site in only a matter of minutes - even if your site has hundreds of web pages!

 Web Host Questions to Ask

Some web hosts will list everything they offer and the programming languages they support up front before you sign on with them. Some will not. For those web hosts that don't list these details up front, you should ask them plenty of questions before signing an agreement. Here are some questions to ask if not stated on their website or agreement:

1. What type of programming applications do you support?

2. Will I have access to program and update my web pages using FTP any time it is needed?

3. What type of servers do you offer - dedicated, shared, managed?

4. Do you offer ecommerce plans with shopping cart capabilities?

5. What type of email capabilities do you offer?

Some hosts will charge more for certain features while others included them at no extra charge. So compare web hosts, their customer service rating, and the plans and features they offer before making a decision.

Discuss with your web designer all the possibilities for your website today and for the future so you will know what to look for in a web host. You will be happy you did!!
