How to find out about your competition

If you're seriously interested in knowing about Internet competition, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about your Internet competition.

Now you can find out what yourcompetition's up to and get the leading edge in your internet business...

You can do the best promotion, have the cheapest prices, the most value, and the most magnificent customer service in the market, but this means nothing if all the customers are going to your competitors!

That's why it's extremely important to keep a close eye on what your competitors are doing. You can keep up with the competitors by following these six easy steps. This will give you the leading edge over your competition and increase your customers and profits!

1. Do a Yahoo search!

Yahoo is one of the most reputable search engine on the net. You can quickly find out who's who in your particular field by doing a global search for your product or service on Yahoo. Periodically, go to Yahoo.com and type in keywords that are related to your company's products or services. This will bring up companies that are in your field - your competitors.

2. Choose Competitors in Your Field

This step will also help you when registering with the search engines.

Since you can only choose two categories to register in with Yahoo, you will want to choose the same categories that your competition is in. In addition, this will help you when searching for partners to trade links with.

3. Make a List of Your Top Competitors

You can write them down or bookmark them in a folder called "Competition". If there are too many listed, then try to narrow your search with more specific keywords or only choose those competitors listed on the first couple of pages of the search engine. The first two or three pages of the search engine is usually where you will find the most successful sites.

I trust that what you've read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

4. Pay Them a Visit

Visit your competitors at least once a month, just to see what's new on their web site.

You can find lots of ideas on how to do things and how not to do things just by visiting the competition. This will allow you to find out what they are offering, pricing, guarantees, shipping, etc.

If you find a competitor that is very successful, you can gather ideas for your site and benefit from what they have already learned!!

5. Known Competitors

If there are companies that you know specifically are in competition with you but did not find them on Yahoo, you can do a specific search on that company name and information using Yahoo and/or other search engines. Other search engines you may want to try are Google, Alta Vista, Excite, Hot Bot, and Lycos.

6. Using Search Engines to Your Advantage

The final step in researching your competition is to search on other search engines using the keywords related to your product or service. Because there are many search engines on the net, you can't ignore trying to find competition on these others. There are potential customers that will search using many different search engines. Make the most of all of them!
