Choosing computer repair services

Affordable Computer Repair Service

Your Computer - Takin' It to the Shop

My desktop PC is about six years old right now, which is pretty ancient as far as computers go. But I've resisted buying a new machine because I've been able to install upgrades (such as additional RAM and a new video card) that allow me to accomplish what I have to.

Things had been going along smoothly until last week when there was a noticeable decrease in performance speed. My PC seemed extremely sluggish, and when a virus scan failed to turn up any threats, I decided to call a computer repair service to check things out.

Sure I'd love to be able to toss my old machine in favor of something sleek and new, but I simply can't afford that kind of purchase right now. It's far more cost-effective to get a computer repair service in here to run some diagnostics, figure out what the problem is, and fix it. I've done this a couple times in the past with decent results, so I'm hoping I experience similar success this time around.

Choices for Repairing Computers

There are a lot of choices when it comes to computer repair service. For instance, I can go to a big box store like Best Buy and get someone from their "Geek Squad" to evaluate my machine. I might do this if I had an extended warranty from the store to cover any maintenance procedures, but since I don't, I'm just going to look elsewhere. Frankly, the Geek Squad doesn't have the best reputation around, so I certainly wouldn't pay for their services.

Another option is to get in touch with a telephone computer repair service. This kind of outfit dispenses instructions over the phone so that I can make the actual repairs on my own. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but I'm simply not knowledgeable enough about computers to attempt such a thing solo. I can handle a bunch of other DIY projects, but not something of this nature!

I think I'll just do what I did the last two times, which is call a local computer repair service to take care of everything. I might have to bring my machine to them or they might come to me. It just depends on the kind of place I call and what kind of services they offer. I wouldn't mind either way, but it would definitely be easier on me if they come here, so that's probably what I'm going to aim for (unless it costs significantly extra to do that).

Since I depend on my PC for getting work done, I don't want to have to put up with this sub par performance for very much longer. I hope that the computer repair service I call will be able to take care of my machine's issues quickly and cheaply so I can get back to being productive at home.

How about your PC or Mac? Is is operating like it should or do you need to shop it? Happy keyboarding!
